Circles and Curves

Mary Vivian Kernick
A new collection for anyone who reads poetry to enjoy
Circles and Curves is a new collection of poetry by Mary Kernick, and it has justly been described as ‘powerful stuff’. It was written over the many years since her first book of poems which was published under the title Whipping Hearts Like Gigs. A journey through most of her lifetime, with recitations of joy, sorrow, love and fun, this is a collection for anyone who reads poetry to enjoy.
Mary Kernick is a jeweller and milliner, designs and makes clothes, and has, over the years, bought, converted and sold houses to supplement her income, first when employed in the editorial department of The Times newspaper and later to enable her to do more or less what she likes. Educated at King Edward V1 High School, Birmingham, she had previously worked at the university there and, amongst divers pursuits, in the musical instrument business. (There she met the Beatles when they were completely unknown and had come to ask the M.D. for sponsorship - he turned them down!) Early in life she became delighted and enslaved by cats, and thought the last ‘special relationship’ had ended with the demise of both Jomo and Pompey, but now she has ‘rescued’ Pluto, a lovely chubby tabby cat - in fact it would be fair to say they have rescued each other!
