An Island Sanctuary
by
SV (Joe) Diggle
A story of tragedy and love on a remote island
An Island Sanctuary is an emotional and evocative story, set mainly in and around the island of Lindisfarne just off the Northumbrian coast.
Fisherman’s son Robert Watts might have been expected to follow one of the island’s traditional occupations. Instead he has gained a PhD and made his career in the academic world. His future seems bright, but tragedies follow, and life is not made any easier when he finds himself torn between the two women whom he loves. Finally it is on the island which nurtured him, with its changing moods and beautiful landscapes, that he finds solace for his troubles.
Born and educated in Leicester, Joe Diggle studied art at Leicester College of Art, in London and in Loughborough and then went on to teach Art and to lecture in Art and Design. He has had his own paintings exhibited at several galleries over the years. On retirement to North Norfolk he created A. V. Arts Gallery to exhibit local artists’ work. A widower with two daughters and a son, he is a keen astronomer and started writing short stories a few years ago.
